Safer Light Rail Car Windows with Laminated Glass

Passengers traveling in the light rail cars operated by the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) will experience all the benefits associated with laminated glass windows supplied by ProCurve Glass. These benefits include safety from accidental or intentional impact and less noise due to the flexible polyvinyl butyral (PVB) interlayer used to bond the glass together. In addition, the dark gray interlayer filters up to 99% UV, while helping to minimize glare from excessive sunlight.

Laminated Glass Benefit

While both tempered and laminated glass are used in safety glazing applications, only laminated glass retains particles after breakage, enabling the panel to remain in its frame until replacement can be made.  Despite the increased load resistance of monolithic tempered glass, it will fall out of its after breakage.

The VTA light rail system serves San Jose and nearby cities in Santa Clara County, California. It consists of 42.2 miles of network comprising three main lines on standard gauge tracks. It currently has 60 stations in operation. For more information on ProCurve Laminated Glass for transportation, contact info@procurveglass.com or give us a call at 215.441.9101.
