ProCurve Glass has manufactured laminated glass windshields for a variety of transportation applications, including marine, rail, automotive, and upon occasion, small aircraft. Two plies of glass are bonded together by a tough, resilient interlayer. With sufficient impact, the glass can break, but is retained in its frame until replacement can be made. In addition, laminates offer excellent optical properties, resistance to abrasion and scratching, and can incorporate a heating element for faster de-fogging and de-icing.
Acrylic windshields are often used in lighter aircraft. While these optically clear windshields are shatter-resistant, it is important to note that they are more susceptible to abrasion and scratching than laminated glass.
