Passengers riding Chattanooga’s Incline Railway will get unparalleled panoramic views of the scenic mountains and valleys surrounding Lookout Mountain. Through observation windows on new trolley-style cars supplied by Brookville Equipment Corporation in 2020, these views are achievable. These cars have several upgraded amenities, including wheelchair accessibility, LED lighting, larger entry and exit doors for passenger loading, quiet fan motors for heat and ventilation, and large windows to make the ride comfortable and enjoyable for visitors year-round.
The Lookout Mountain Incline Railway is a funicular railway system owned by the Chattanooga Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA). The rail cars are powered by two 100 horsepower winches developed by the Otis Elevator Company. They climb at a breathtaking 72.7% grade for approximately one mile. Except for a passing loop in the middle, the funicular is a single-track system.
ProCurve Glass Design
ProCurve Glass supplied ¼” curved gray laminated glass to Brookville for installation in roofs and windows of the cars. The laminated glass offers two main benefits—it will stay in place if breakage should occur and the tinted interlayer helps to minimize glare. Other benefits associated with laminated glass are its ability to minimize noise and filter up to 99% harmful UV rays.
Long a staple in automotive windshields, ProCurve Glass laminates are tested to the safety standard ANSI Z26.1, Safety Glazing Materials for Glazing Motor Vehicles and Motor Vehicle Equipment Operating on Land Highways.
